Theatre Teacher
Chaz Giles
Of all the theatre teachers to grace the halls of Woodmont High School, Mr. Giles is one of them. Despite his horrible facial disfigurements, (see bio photo for reference) he comes in every day with a smile on his face, a song in his heart, and salad from Publix.
Mr. Giles’s parents met doing theatre. So, naturally, he was forced to be a part of it as well. Countless rehearsals of his youth were spent with toys scattered across the auditorium floors or Gameboy in hand until that one faithful day 26 years ago where he was thrust into the spotlight to perform “or you would have to walk home!” (slightly dramatized). Whether exposure to the craft eventually made him love it, or if he is a textbook case study for Stockholm Syndrome, Mr. Giles has been on stage ever since.
He received his Bachelors Degree from Lander University where he majored in Media Studies and minored in Vocal Performance. It was in his senior year of undergrad that he realized he wanted to pursue theatre professionally. So, naturally he signed up for dance lessons. Every day for a year he would take ballet lessons three to five hours a day. He is proud to hold the title of best dancer within the class of 8 year olds.
Post graduation (2018) he toured the world of East Tennessee where he performed professionally at many prestigious venues such as *find reference for notable venues*. During this time he would spend thousands of hours performing and honing his craft into the solid 6/10 actor you see before you today. During this time he also worked on getting his M.A. in Theatre. After several years of living the high life of a professional musical theatre and improv performer, he decided to return to a quiet, well paying life. That’s when he began teaching part time at Lander University. Those closest to him told Mr. Giles “You enjoy not being a starving artist? Try a living wage.” Which drove him to take up the theatre teacher position at Brewer Middle School in Greenwood South Carolina. That winding road led him here, Woodmont High School, the best theatre program in the state of South Carolina. Having just finished his alternative certification, Mr. Giles is happy to dedicate himself to the continuing success and theatrical education of all students who pass through the halls of Woodmont.
